Provided that we are not working in an emergency scenario, we make it a point to run physical examinations on every surgery patient in order make sure he or she is healthy enough to undergo anesthesia. Physical exams also help us determine whether certain medications or antibiotics will be necessary before, during, or after treating your animal companion.
During surgery, patients are monitored constantly by pulse oximeter, a device that keeps tabs on oxygen saturation in the blood. This is one of many basic safety measures taken by our veterinarians.
